Police arrest dangerous drug suspect, seize 2m Captagon pills in Ruwaished

The Jordan Times

AMMAN – Police on Thursday said they have arrested a dangerous wanted suspect, who allegedly has ties with a regional illicit drugs gang, in Rewished.

In a joint operation between the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) and specialised raid teams, law-enforcement officers arrested the suspect in a farm following weeks of monitoring, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col Amer Sartawi said.

“The suspect’s son, who is a minor, was also arrested because he tried to help his father evade capture,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

Officers seized over two million Captagon pills, weapons, smuggling balloons and a large amount of cash that were allegedly hidden in a farm that belonged to the suspect, Sartawi maintained.

The police official said that AND officers received a tip that the suspect was “in close contact with regional gang members and that he was receiving illicit drugs via balloons that were crossing the Jordanian border”.

“The suspect was closely monitored by law-enforcement officers, who raided the farm to arrest him,” according to Sartawi.

The suspect resisted arrest and “used his minor son to help him escape but the two were arrested by arresting officers,” he added.

The two suspects were referred to the State Security Court prosecution office for further questioning and indictment, according to a statement by the Public Security Directorate.
