Nashama ready to continue historic World Cup push - Sellami

The Jordan Times

AMMAN – Head coach of Jordan national football team (The Nashama) Jamal Sellami has said that time is the “biggest” challenge facing coaching staffs, due to the short training camps before official matches.

Sellami said that that preparation remains ongoing despite limited time for player camps ahead of official fixtures, the Jordan news agency, Petra, reported.

He also said that The Nashama is seeking to build on the momentum and stability gained following its historic run at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, where the squad reached the final for the first time in the nation’s history.

Sellami also said that the technical staff is currently focused on expanding the team’s options across all positions and preparing suitable replacements to deal with potential injuries or suspensions during the demanding qualification campaign.

He also highlighted the growing number of Jordanian players competing professionally abroad, saying the increased overseas experience has had a positive impact on the team’s development and overall technical level.

“The team possesses a distinguished group of players with both ambition and experience,” Sellami said, adding that strong public support and rising interest in Jordanian football continue to provide extra motivation for the players.

He stressed that competition within the qualifying group will be intense and will require full concentration in every match as Jordan pursues what would be a historic first appearance at the FIFA World Cup.

Sellami added that the national team’s recent achievements have contributed to increased sponsorship opportunities and higher market values for several players, reflecting the broader progress of Jordanian football on multiple levels.
