Fayez urges adherence to Gaza ceasefire agreement, unhindered aid delivery

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — Senate President Faisal Fayez, during his speech at the opening session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union conference in Geneva, Switzerland, affirmed that adhering to humanitarian standards and ensuring the delivery of relief aid to areas affected by conflict and natural disasters is not only a moral duty but also a cornerstone for building a fairer and safer world.

Fayez emphasised that ethical standards and humanitarian values should guide parliamentarians to work together in support of the vulnerable and those displaced by war and disasters, without distinction based on religion, race, or gender. He noted that this responsibility is particularly urgent in a world that has become increasingly harsh and chaotic, marked by widespread hatred, where human life is often undervalued.

He stressed that, following the signing of the ceasefire in Gaza, the international community must take decisive and practical action to ensure that Israel adheres to all provisions of the peace plan put forward by US President Donald Trump, which has garnered broad Arab and international support.

Fayez emphasised the importance of coordinated efforts to provide adequate and immediate humanitarian assistance to alleviate the famine affecting Gaza’s population, highlighting that Jordan remains among the most responsive countries to global relief initiatives, reflecting the Kingdom’s dedication to humanitarian values, supporting the vulnerable, and aiding those in distress.

“Jordan’s policies are founded on moderation, centrism, and respect for state sovereignty. The ‘Amman Message,’ launched by His Majesty King Abdullah, calls for love, tolerance, and acceptance of others, emphasizes shared values among followers of the Abrahamic faiths, and condemns hatred, extremism, racism, and hate speech, aiming to foster a humane society free from violence, killing, and destruction,” he said.

Fayez highlighted that, since the start of the Israeli aggression on Gaza, Jordan has been continuously sending aid convoys to the Strip, delivered through hundreds of trucks and airlifts. He emphasized that these humanitarian efforts reflect Jordan’s belief that providing assistance to those in need is a moral and humanitarian duty that should not be subject to political pressures. For this reason, Jordan today serves as a key hub for international humanitarian response in Gaza.

He also urged parliamentarians to be a source of hope for those who have lost it, to extend a helping hand to everyone in need, and to make the conference a launching point for more effective and impactful humanitarian work.
