Russian drone and missile strikes killed three people, including a paramedic, and injured dozens across various regions of Ukraine on Saturday, Ukrainian authorities reported.
Fatalities in Dnipropetrovsk Region
"A paramedic was killed and another injured after several missiles were launched at the town of Petropavlivska in the Dnipropetrovsk region," in the east-central part of the country, the Interior Ministry said via social media.
In the same region, "a woman was killed and seven people injured," the ministry added, explaining that "damage was inflicted on firefighting vehicles, residential buildings and stores."
Strikes Hit Kyiv
Moscow also targeted the capital, Kyiv, in overnight strikes, damaging buildings and homes in various city districts. One person was killed and 10 were injured, according to Tymur Tkachynko, head of the military administration in the capital.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on the Telegram app, "Explosions in the capital. The city is under a ballistic attack."
Around 4 AM, Agence France-Presse journalists in Kyiv heard the sound of missiles as well as powerful explosions. National rescue services published photos showing firefighters battling blazes as large fires broke out in the Desnyanskyi and Darnytskyi districts.
The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia launched "nine Iskander-M ballistic missiles" and "64 offensive drones" of other types toward Ukraine overnight, adding that it had destroyed 50 drones and four missiles.
Western Allies Increase Pressure
The attack comes as Kyiv's Western allies increase pressure on Russia as the war enters its fourth year.
On Friday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer urged allies to boost Kyiv's long-range missile capabilities, a day after European Union leaders took steps toward funding Ukraine's military capacity for another two years.
Also this week, the United States and the European Union announced new sanctions targeting the Russian energy sector.
