AMMAN — Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Wednesday mourned the passing of former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Shaher Bak Askar and expressed condolences to the family of the deceased.

 

Askar served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs from 2002 to 2003 and as secretary-general of the Foreign Ministry, according to a Prime Ministry statement.

 

He also served as commissioner-general for human rights in the Kingdom and as Jordan’s ambassador to Spain and South Africa.

 

Throughout his career, he held several positions at the Royal Hashemite Court and in the diplomatic corps. Born in Amman in 1939, Askar was the recipient of several Jordanian, Arab and international decorations.
