AMMAN — The World Food Programme has been approached to establish a regional hub in Jordan, dedicated to emergency response, enabling the provision of humanitarian aid to disaster-stricken nations via the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation, according to Minister of Agriculture Khaled Huneifat said.

During the Food Security Council’s 2024 meeting, attended by numerous ministers and officials, the council approved the continuation of procedures for signing a proposed agreement between the government, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, the Food Security Council, and the United Nations World Food Programme.

The agreement aims to provide technical support for various activities and projects in the field of food security, including food systems and initiatives related to reducing food waste, within the framework of the World Food Programme's Strategic Plan in Jordan (2023-2027), the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The meeting also discussed a proposed budget for the Food Security Council and a draft plan to improve Jordan’s ranking in the Global Food Security Index for the period of 2024-2026.
