GENEVA — The United Nations called Tuesday for swift and impartial investigations into Israeli strikes in Lebanon, including a deadly attack on a Palestinian refugee camp last week.
"There must be prompt and impartial investigations into the Ein El Hilweh strike, as well as all other incidents involving possible violations of international humanitarian law by all parties, both before and after the ceasefire. Those responsible must be brought to justice," UN rights office spokesman Thameen Al Kheetan told reporters in Geneva.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called on the international community to intervene firmly to stop Israeli attacks on the country after a deadly strike on Beirut's southern suburbs on Sunday.
In a statement, Aoun said Lebanon "reiterates its call to the international community to assume its responsibility and intervene firmly and seriously to stop the attacks on Lebanon and its people".
Lebanon's health ministry said an Israeli strike on Beirut's southern suburbs on Sunday killed at least five people and wounded 28 more, after Israel said it had targeted Hezbollah's chief of staff.
In a statement, the ministry said that five people were killed and 28 wounded in the strike on an apartment building in the Lebanese capital, calling it a "final toll".
