AMMAN — Jordanian expatriates' remittances in the first two months of 2024 increased by 4.6 per cent, reaching a total of $593.8 million, compared with $567.8 million in the same period in 2023, the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) said on Tuesday. Preliminary data issued by the CBJ also showed that tourism revenues in the first quarter of the year totalled $1.6 billion, compared with $1.7 billion in the first three months of 2023, marking a decrease of 5.6 per cent, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. The tourism revenues were negatively affected by seasonal factors in March in conjunction with Ramadan, which usually witnesses a decline in the number of tourists arriving in the Kingdom, according to the CBJ. The central bank added that the drop in tourism revenues was also attributed to regional instability.
