AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi on Sunday held phone calls with Saudi, Egyptian, UAE, Kuwaiti, Qatari, Bahraini, Omani and Turkish counterparts to discuss the dangerous regional escalation and efforts to end it.

 

During calls with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah, Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Safadi stressed the need for coordinated efforts to stop the escalation through dialogue and diplomacy.

 

The ministers emphasised the importance of implementing the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, returning to negotiations and reaching a comprehensive solution that addresses the root causes of the crisis, restores calm and ensures freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

 

Safadi reiterated Jordan’s absolute solidarity with Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states in confronting Iranian attacks, which he described as violations of state sovereignty and threats to regional security and stability.

 

The ministers warned of the consequences of continued escalation and stressed the need to end tensions, protect regional and international peace and security and resolve disputes through diplomatic means.

 

During separate calls with Abdelatty and Fidan, Safadi discussed developments in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, stressing the need to implement all provisions of US President Donald Trump’s plan regarding Gaza to ensure stability and end the humanitarian crisis.

 

They also called for lifting restrictions hindering humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza and rejected Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank that entrench occupation and undermine the two-state solution.

 

They urged the international community to take effective steps to halt such measures, which they said violate international law and threaten regional stability.

 

The top diplomats also warned against actions that could alter the historical and legal status quo at Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem, reaffirming that Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims.
