AMMAN — Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan, Finance Minister Abdelhakim Shibli, and Central Bank of Jordan Governor Adel Sharkas met on Friday with International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and other senior officials on the sidelines of the 2026 Spring Meetings to discuss the Kingdom's economic progress.

During these sessions, the Jordanian delegation and the IMF reached a staff-level agreement on the fifth review of the Extended Fund Facility and the second review under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility, which will contribute to providing funding estimated at $197 million.

IMF Mission Chief Cesar Serra said during the meetings that the Jordanian economy continues to demonstrate resilience, supported by the government's commitment to prudent macroeconomic policies and sustained international support.

He noted that the Central Bank of Jordan has successfully maintained an inflation rate below 2 per cent, which he attributed to a firm commitment to monetary stability and the maintenance of comfortable foreign reserve levels.

Serra also highlighted the strength of the Jordanian banking sector, which currently enjoys healthy levels of liquidity and capitalisation.

The IMF official further commended the government’s proactive measures to mitigate the economic repercussions of regional tensions, specifically citing efforts to manage rising energy prices and the downturn in tourism while maintaining balanced fiscal and monetary policies.

These measures included strengthening national energy security, facilitating supply chains, and ensuring the availability of liquidity in financial markets.

Serra concluded by noting that the government has also prioritised providing targeted support to the most vulnerable groups to ensure social stability amidst regional fluctuations.
