AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, during a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres in New York on Tuesday, called on all countries to put a stop to the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza.

During the meeting, held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly and attended by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, His Majesty underscored the need for the international community to play an active role in pressuring Israel to end the suffering of the Palestinians, and to respect international law and the sovereignty of all countries in the region, according to a Royal Court statement.

The King asserted the need to halt Israel’s military ground operations in Gaza, end the war, and ensure the flow of relief aid to all areas of the Strip.

His Majesty warned of the serious consequences of continued escalations against Palestinians in the West Bank and Jerusalem, the statement said.

The King also reiterated the importance of creating a political horizon for achieving just and comprehensive peace, on the basis of the two-state solution.

His Majesty expressed appreciation for Guterres’ position in support of advancing political solutions to resolve various conflicts and address developments in the region.
