AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called for immediate international action to address the worsening humanitarian catastrophe facing Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, amid severe weather conditions compounded by Israel’s continued restrictions on the entry of aid.
In a statement on Tuesday, the ministry urged Israel to lift all restrictions and obstacles preventing the delivery of sufficient, immediate and sustained humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Fouad Majali said the Strip is facing an “unprecedented” humanitarian disaster due to the extensive destruction caused by the Israeli aggression and Israel’s continued obstruction of adequate humanitarian aid.
He stressed that the dire conditions require urgent international intervention to compel Israel to open all crossings and allow the delivery of sufficient humanitarian assistance to all parts of the enclave.
Majali underscored the need for Israel to comply with its obligations under international law and international humanitarian law, refrain from impeding humanitarian access, and facilitate relief and assistance programmes for Gaza.
He emphasised the importance of enabling UN agencies, particularly the UNRWA, as well as international non-governmental organisations, to continue their work and deliver aid across the Gaza Strip, especially in light of the extremely difficult conditions facing the population.
