AMMAN — Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Sunday directed the creation of a comprehensive master plan for the Azraq region, aiming to position it as a major environmental and tourism hub.

The plan will link the Shaumari Wildlife Reserve, the Azraq Wetland Reserve and the surrounding water bodies currently under development, according to a Prime Ministry statement.

During his visit to Azraq District, part of his regular field inspection tours, Hassan stressed the need to restore Azraq’s presence on the tourism map, particularly after the UN World Tourism Organisation named North Azraq Village among the Best Tourism Villages in the World for 2025.

The prime minister also instructed authorities to expedite the creation of qualified craft and industrial zones and to address residential, commercial, and artisanal development challenges in the district, the statement read.

Hassan was also briefed by the ministers of local administration and public works and housing on the comprehensive development plan for Azraq and the ongoing projects aimed at boosting its tourism profile.

During a visit to the Azraq Comprehensive Military Medical Centre, one of four sites he inspected in the district, Hassan directed that civilian residents be included in the centre’s services, in coordination with the Ministry of Health and the Royal Medical Services.

He also ordered the establishment of an obstetrics and gynaecology department and an increase in dialysis beds to reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for treatment, the statement said.

At the Azraq Governmental Health Centre, the premier, accompanied by the minister of health, met with patients and staff and called for strengthened medical and nursing teams, extended hours for the maternal and child health clinic, and the addition of an ambulance.

The prime minister also visited Al Ain Al Bayda Primary School, where he directed the expansion and renovation of facilities, the addition of new classrooms, a computer lab and playgrounds for students, the statement read.

In South Amman, Hassan inspected the North Amman Land Registration Directorate, ordering additional staffing, updated equipment, modernised electronic systems, extended working hours, and general maintenance to facilitate services for citizens in the area.

He also visited the Khreibet Al Souq Comprehensive Health Centre, directing its rapid expansion and staffing with specialised personnel to enhance service quality for the more than 200,000 residents it serves annually.

At Jawa Secondary School for Boys, Hassan instructed immediate general maintenance and full renovation of the school’s facilities in response to the poor conditions reported.
