AMMAN — Assistance for Syrian refugees living in host communities in Jordan has remained suspended since April due to a severe funding shortage, the World Food Programme said in its August report.

 

In the report, cited by Al Mamlaka, WFP said that it provided food assistance in July to about 81,000 Syrian refugees living in camps, while assistance to refugees living in host communities remained suspended.

 

Syrian refugees in the camps currently receive monthly assistance of 15 Jordanian dinars ($21) per person, a reduced amount that covers only part of their food needs, according to the report.

 

The agency said that it needs $28.6 million between August 2026 and January 2027 to meet its operational and assistance needs in Jordan.

 

There were 370,200 Syrian refugees registered with the UN refugee agency in Jordan as of July 2026, according to the report.

 

The WFP also reported that 210,308 Syrian refugees returned to Syria between December 2024 and August 2026.

 

WFP said that it needs $2.7 million for its school nutrition programme during the 2026–2027 academic year. The funding would support the provision of fortified date bars and healthy meals to about 510,000 students from the most vulnerable groups.
