Fuel pricing committee lowers gasoline, kerosene prices, maintains diesel for February

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — The government on Saturday decided to reduce fuel prices for February, including cutting the price of kerosene by 4 fils per litre, following the monthly meeting of the Fuel Pricing Committee.

Under the decision, the price of kerosene will be lowered to 550 fils per litre, down from 590 fils, in line with a government decision aimed at easing the burden on citizens during the holy month of Ramadan, which coincides with the winter season, according to an Energy Ministry statement.

The committee reviewed global crude oil and petroleum product prices for January and compared them with December figures, noting a decline in international prices for 90- and 95-octane gasoline and stability in diesel prices.

After applying the pricing formula based on global market trends, the committee found that the prices of 90- and 95-octane gasoline would fall by 20 fils per litre each, while diesel prices remain unchanged.

Under the decision, 90-octane gasoline will be sold at 810 fils per litre, down from 830 fils, 95-octane at 1,035 fils per litre, down from 1,055 fils, and 98-octane at 1,185 fils per litre, down from 1,205 fils. Diesel will remain at 645 fils per litre.

The committee also decided to maintain the price of a 12.5-kilogramme household gas cylinder at JD7.

Prices of oil derivatives in the local market are calculated based on international prices, in addition to other costs, including shipping and taxes.

The committee meets monthly to review fuel prices in line with international market fluctuations.

Also on Saturday, the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission decided to maintain the “differences in fuel prices” category on monthly electricity bills for February at zero fils per kilowatt-hour (kWh), the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
