AMMAN — The Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) of the Public Security Directorate (PSD) on Thursday warned helium gas traders and importers against selling the gas for use in smuggling illicit drugs via balloons.

 

The warning follows investigations into several cases involving traders who facilitated the sale of helium gas for smuggling purposes, Al Mamlaka TV reported.

 

Authorities arrested those involved, along with the smugglers who received the gas.

 

All suspects were referred to the State Security Court after the necessary legal proceedings were completed.

 

The AND urged helium suppliers, importers and other entities operating in the sector to strictly comply with legal requirements, properly document all sales transactions and avoid dealing with smugglers or suspicious individuals.

 

The department also cautioned against enabling access to helium gas or any other materials that could be used in drug trafficking operations, warning that such practices could result in legal prosecution.

 

The AND said that, in cooperation with the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) and other security agencies, it continues to monitor and track new methods used by drug traffickers to smuggle narcotics, including helium-filled balloons.

 

The department stressed that it would take strict action against violations that facilitate drug smuggling, the distribution of illicit substances within the Kingdom or their transit to neighbouring countries.
