AMMAN — The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has signed an agreement with the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., to host the international exhibition “Jordan: The Dawn of Christianity”, highlighting the Kingdom’s Christian heritage on the global stage.

 

Jordan’s Ambassador to the US Dina Kawar signed the agreement on behalf of the ministry with the museum’s President and CEO Carlos Campo in Washington.

 

The ministry said the exhibition showcases Jordan’s role in the birth and spread of Christianity through rare artefacts documenting nearly 2,000 years of Christian history in the Kingdom, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reproted.

 

Jordan is home to several significant Christian sites, including the Baptism Site (Bethany Beyond the Jordan), a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) World Heritage Site, as well as Machaerus, Umm Qais, the churches of Rihab, the ancient church of Aqaba, and the churches of Petra, Umm Al Rasas and Madaba.

 

The exhibition is part of Jordan’s preparations to commemorate the 2,000th anniversary of the baptism of Jesus Christ by John the Baptist, reinforcing the Baptism Site’s position as a global destination for Christian pilgrimage and religious tourism.

 

Previously displayed at the Vatican and in Assisi, Italy, the exhibition attracted international attention and visitors.

 

It is scheduled to open at the Museum of the Bible in Washington in the first quarter of 2027.
