AMMAN — The Ministry of Transport said on Thursday that relevant authorities have begun implementing the King Hussein Bridge Public Transport Station project, with excavation work underway and preparations beginning for a temporary parking area for vehicles using the crossing.

 

Barriers have also been installed to separate the main access road and facilitate the movement of project machinery, the ministry said in a statement.

 

The works are being carried out in coordination with authorities responsible for utility networks, including water, electricity and telecommunications, the ministry added.

 

The project is expected to be completed within 12 months, with completion scheduled for August 2027.

 

Launched at a total cost of JD2.6 million, the project is being built on a 17.5-dunum site adjacent to the border crossing. It aims to ease traffic congestion at the bridge and provide integrated and convenient services for arriving and departing passengers.

 

The project includes an integrated parking system with 138 spaces for medium- and small-sized buses, known as “bridge service” vehicles, and 87 spaces for private cars, including two designated for persons with disabilities.

 

It will also include two spaces for loading tourist rental vehicles and four designated spaces for charging electric vehicles.

 

The project also includes several air-conditioned service and administrative buildings equipped with solar power systems, most notably a two-storey administrative and commercial building covering 1,300 square metres. The building will include a waiting hall, prayer room, shops and administrative offices.

 

Other facilities include a drivers’ rest building, a traffic monitoring building and a tyre maintenance station, in addition to various shelters for passengers and other users.
