AMMAN — Royal Court Chief Yousef Issawi on Sunday said that His Majesty King Abdullah accords Irbid governorate, like all governorates of the Kingdom, special attention within a well-established Royal approach.

He added that such an approach is based on direct engagement with citizens, listening to their views and concerns, and directing relevant authorities to translate them into development programmes and projects that improve services and enhance social and living stability, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Issawi made the remarks during a meeting at the Royal Court with around 250 representatives of Irbid governorate, held at Royal directives following His Majesty’s visit to the governorate on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by Adviser to His Majesty for Tribal Affairs Kneiaan Bluwi and was moderated by Irbid Governor Radwan Atoum.

Issawi stressed that the King’s intensive political and diplomatic efforts in defence of Jordan’s national interests and the just causes of the Arab nation, foremost the Palestinian cause and the protection of Jerusalem and its holy sites, do not detract from His Majesty’s constant focus on domestic affairs and citizens’ daily concerns.

He noted that Jordan’s strength and cohesion form the foundation for supporting the causes of the Arab nation.

Issawi pointed out that Jordanians represent the true capital in the King’s vision, emphasising that safeguarding citizens’ dignity and improving their standard of living remain national priorities across all policies and programmes.

He added that current economic challenges require practical solutions and balanced development encompassing all governorates, based on justice and integration between state institutions and the private sector.

Issawi said that Royal directives concerning Irbid focus on supporting development projects and vital sectors, boosting service delivery, and investing in the governorate’s competitive advantages to stimulate the local economy and create job opportunities for its residents.

He noted that Royal initiatives implemented over recent years have delivered numerous projects across the governorate, covering education, youth, health, social development and infrastructure, as well as support for civil society organisations and sustainable local development.

Issawi added that many of these initiatives have been completed and handed over to beneficiaries and operating entities, while others are currently under implementation or set to begin soon, stressing that Royal initiatives will continue in Irbid and across the Kingdom.

Issawi also reviewed the government’s three-year plan, agreed upon following the Cabinet meeting held in the governorate at the end of 2024 and extending until 2027.

The plan includes projects across various sectors with a total cost of JD700 million, among them the construction of 18 new schools, the implementation of a central vegetable market project in partnership with the private sector, completion of the Irbid ring road, rehabilitation and expansion of roads, and hospitals and health centres.

The plan also includes the immediate response to Royal directives during the King’s recent visit to establish an advanced cancer treatment centre at the new Princess Basma Hospital in cooperation with the King Hussein Cancer Centre.

During the meeting, tribal leaders, elders and representatives of Irbid expressed their appreciation for the Royal approach based on direct communication with citizens, reiterating their support for the Hashemite leadership and commending the development witnessed by the governorate across various sectors.

They also praised His Majesty’s recent visit to Irbid, describing it as an important milestone that reflected the leadership’s approach in engaging with citizens, identifying their needs, and directing relevant authorities to translate national priorities into tangible projects in line with available resources.
