AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, HRH Prince Hashem, the Chief Chamberlain, on Friday participated in the inauguration of Prophet Muhammad Mosque in Shali, Chechnya.

The mosque, opened by Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov in the presence of representatives of Arab and Islamic countries, is considered the biggest mosque in Europe accommodating up to 20,000 worshippers within its walls and 100,000 in its external yards, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

In his address during the inauguration ceremony, Prince Hashem said that the mosque embodies the keenness of Russia and Chechnya on the affairs of Muslims, enhances their loyalty to Islam, and highlights the pluralism and freedom of worship in the Russian federation.

Following the ceremony, Prince Hashem met with Kadyrov and delivered a message from His Majesty congratulating him on the opening of the mosque in Shali.

The message also highlighted the “deep-rooted” relations between Jordanians and Chechens and keenness to develop them at all levels, in a way that can realise joint interests under the “historical cooperation and friendship ties” between the Kingdom and the Russian federation.
