AMMAN — Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan on Thursday held talks with European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) President Odile Renaud-Basso on ongoing and planned projects under the bank’s 2025–2030 strategy, focusing on key infrastructure and development priorities.
The discussions covered major water-sector projects, including the National Water Carrier, as well as programs to reduce water losses and wastewater initiatives, according to a ministry statement.
The talks also addressed future priorities in renewable energy, green hydrogen, infrastructure development and projects of the National Electric Power Company, in addition to school construction through public–private partnerships.
The meeting was attended by EBRD Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region Mark Davis and Head of the Bank’s Amman and Middle East Office Gretchen Biery.
Toukan welcomed the EBRD’s continued support for Jordan’s development agenda, praising the bank’s alignment with the Economic Modernisation Vision and its role in backing private sector projects in cooperation with the local banking sector.
For her part, Renaud-Basso highlighted the strength of the partnership with the Jordanian government and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to boosting private sector development and advancing sustainable economic growth through targeted investments and policy support.
Since 2012, the EBRD’s cumulative investments in Jordan have reached around 2.2 billion euros, supporting projects across the electricity and renewable energy, water and wastewater, infrastructure, solid waste management, transport, tourism and pharmaceutical sectors.
The private sector accounts for 73 per cent of the bank’s financing in the Kingdom, including funding channelled through local banks to support projects, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and trade finance, alongside technical assistance and advisory services in priority areas.
