AMMAN — Jordan has condemned Houthi militia’s accusations against Saudi Arabia, describing claims that Riyadh was imposing a blockade on the Yemeni people as baseless.

 

In a statement on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Fouad Majali voiced Jordan’s “strong rejection and condemnation” of the statements the military spokesperson for the Houthi group, reaffirming Amman’s full solidarity with Riyadh.

 

He also underlined Jordan’s full support for all measures Saudi Arabia takes to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and the safety of its citizens and residents.

 

Majali also called on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities by ensuring the implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216 on Yemen and Resolution 2722 on protecting rights and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.

 

He stressed that freedom of navigation in international waterways is a right guaranteed under international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

 

Saudi authorities on Monday condemned claims by a Houthi military spokesperson that the militant group had imposed a maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia. They also condemned Houthi accusations that the Kingdom has besieged the Yemeni people.

 

The Saudi Foreign Ministry said, “The kingdom affirms that it has worked over the past years with the legitimate government of Yemen to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people through the continuation of development projects, support for the Yemeni government’s budget and the provision of petroleum derivatives to operate power plants.”

 

The ministry statement said that more than 300 ships carrying a variety of food items, goods, fuel and construction materials arrived at ports in northern Yemen, including Hodeidah, Salif and Ras Isa, during the first half of 2026.
