AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday welcomed the UN General Assembly’s decision to renew the mandate of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) for an additional three years, through 2029.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Fuad Majali said the Kingdom “highly values” the decision, which he noted reflects the indispensable role UNRWA continues to play in providing essential services to Palestinian refugees across its five areas of operation under its UN mandate, according to a ministry statement.

Majali stressed that the vote demonstrates the international community’s determination to ensure the agency can continue fulfilling its responsibilities toward Palestinian refugees, whose plight remains a final-status issue that must be resolved in line with international law and relevant UN resolutions, particularly Resolution 194, which guarantees the right of return and compensation.

He underscored the importance of sustained international political and financial support to enable the agency to continue its work, especially in Gaza, where civilians are facing an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.

Majali also reiterated the Kingdom’s commitment, in coordination with regional and international partners, to supporting UNRWA and maintaining its vital services.

The Foreign Ministry also welcomed the peace agreement signed between Rwanda and Congo in Washington, DC.

Majali said the Kingdom values the agreement, which he noted contributes to the security and stability of both countries, supports development and prosperity for their peoples, and reinforces efforts to resolve conflicts peacefully.

He reiterated Jordan’s support for all diplomatic initiatives aimed at promoting regional and international peace and security, expressing the Kingdom’s appreciation for the efforts of US President Donald Trump, Qatar, and other parties that helped facilitate the agreement.
