AMMAN — The ministries of social development and environment on Thursday launched a partnership to implement the 2026–2027 executive programme of the Cleanliness and Reduction of Littering Strategy, aimed at promoting environmental awareness and curbing littering across the Kingdom.

 

The launch was attended by Minister of Social Development and Chairperson of the Societies Registry Board Wafaa Bani Mustafa and Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman, Al Mamlaka TV reported.

 

Bani Mustafa said that protecting the environment and maintaining cleanliness in public places is a shared national and community responsibility that requires coordinated efforts, integrated roles and greater participation by local communities in protecting their resources and public spaces.

 

She said that the strategy has received the attention of His Majesty King Abdullah and Crown Prince Hussein, along with close government follow-up to ensure its implementation and promote a culture of environmental protection and cleanliness.

 

Bani Mustafa said the Social Development Ministry is keen to play an active role in implementing the programme, particularly given the role of charitable societies and civil society organisations in encouraging citizens to participate in initiatives that serve their communities and protect the environment.

 

As part of preparations for the partnership, the ministry selected 10 active charitable societies with the experience and capacity to implement activities in targeted areas across several governorates, she said. The societies prepared implementation plans, which were reviewed by the ministry to ensure they were aligned with the programme’s objectives and expected outcomes.

 

She stressed that the partnership goes beyond implementing cleanliness and anti-littering activities to building sustainable community awareness and turning environmental protection from a seasonal practice into a daily behaviour and an established culture.

 

Suleiman said the partnership represents a practical model of integration between state institutions and civil society organisations and reflects a participatory approach to implementing the strategy’s executive programme.

 

Achieving the programme’s objectives is a shared national responsibility requiring coordinated efforts by the government, municipalities, security agencies, private sector, charitable societies, youth and local communities, he said.

 

Suleiman said the partnership is also in line with Royal directives to strengthen environmental protection, sustainable development, community empowerment and quality of life.

 

He commended the Social Development Ministry’s support for 10 charitable societies in Irbid, Ajloun, Jerash and Amman, describing the initiative as a practical step to empower societies to play an active role in environmental initiatives and create a tangible and sustainable impact in local communities.

 

At the end of the launch ceremony, financial support was distributed to the selected societies to implement their plans according to the programme’s designated stages.

 

The support was provided under agreements signed with the participating societies, paving the way for field activities and programmes aimed at maintaining cleanliness and reducing littering.
