Algeria’s equalizer was their first World Cup goal since 2014.
With the defeat, Jordan—competing in its first-ever World Cup finals—was eliminated from the tournament after also losing its opening match 3-1 to Austria. Algeria had previously lost 3-0 to Argentina in its first group-stage match.
The match was played at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium in the United States and was attended by a large number of Jordanian supporters. Fans across Jordan also gathered at public viewing sites from the early hours of the morning to support the national team.

Sellami’s starting lineup featured Yazeed Abu Laila in goal, with Ehsan Haddad, Abdullah Nasib, Yazan Al-Arab, Hossam Abu Al-Dhahab, Muhannad Abu Taha, Nizar Al-Rashdan, Nour Al-Rawabdeh, Mahmoud Al-Mardi, Ali Olwan, and Mousa Al-Taamari.
Algeria’s starting lineup included Luca Zidane in goal, with Ramy Bensebaini, Aïssa Mandi, Rayan Aït-Nouri, and Hicham Boudaoui in defense. The midfield featured Riyad Mahrez, Farès Chaïbi, Ramiz Zerrouki, and Ibrahim Maza, while Amine Gouiri and Rafik Belghali led the attack.
Group J consists of Jordan, Algeria, Argentina, and Austria. Earlier in the second round, Argentina defeated Austria 2-0 to strengthen its grip on first place in the group.
Jordan will conclude its group-stage campaign against Argentina next Sunday, while Algeria will face Austria in the final round of matches.
The victory lifted Algeria’s tally to three points, level with Austria but behind on goal difference, while defending champions Argentina secured top spot in the group.
Algeria’s final match against Austria on June 27 in Kansas will determine the group runner-up, with Austria needing only a draw. The top eight third-placed teams across the tournament will also advance to the Round of 32.
