AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi on Tuesday received Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, to discuss ways to strengthen fraternal ties and review regional developments.
During the meeting, the officials highlighted the historic and strong ties between the two countries, noting that relations continue to deepen and evolve, driven by a shared commitment to cooperation across multiple fields in the interest of both nations and in line with the guidance of their respective leaderships, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
They also explored ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in key sectors, including trade, investment, education, and tourism, agreeing on practical steps and the establishment of joint working groups to oversee and advance collaborative initiatives in these areas.
The two ministers signed a memorandum of understanding between the Jordanian Diplomatic Institute and the International Diplomatic Academy in Tunisia.
Safadi and Nafti also discussed regional and international developments, particularly the situation in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, as well as efforts aimed at achieving security, stability, and a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
They also agreed to continue coordinating efforts to strengthen bilateral ties, monitor the progress of the joint working groups, and address matters of shared interest.
Also on Tuesday, Safadi received Deputy Assistant Secretary for Senate Affairs Roy Awabdeh.
During the meeting, Safadi and Awabdeh discussed ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between Jordan and the US and expand cooperation across various fields. They also reviewed a number of regional issues and ongoing efforts to enhance security and stability in the region.
Safadi also met Norwegian Minister of International Development Asmund Aukrust, with talks focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the two Kingdoms in various fields.
Safadi and Aukrust underscored the depth of Jordanian-Norwegian relations and their keenness to continue joint efforts to further develop ties and build on the existing partnership in economic and development areas, in addition to strengthening coordination on issues of mutual concern at the regional and international levels.
Safadi expressed appreciation for Norway’s support for Jordan and its key role in helping meet the needs of refugees, as well as its support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
Norway has announced $27 million in funding for UNRWA for the years 2026–2027.
