Israeli attack damages two TUA educational units in Gaza

AMMAN — Two educational units run by Tkiyet Um Ali (TUA) in northern Gaza sustained "significant damage" in an Israeli attack on Friday, disrupting facilities providing education and psychosocial support to children under the Gaza Children’s Recovery Programme, according to TUA.

TUA Director-General Samer Balkar said that the attack took place during the weekly holiday, with no injuries reported among children or staff, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Balkar said the charity, in coordination with its partner, the Palestine Tomorrow Association, was assessing the damage and carrying out maintenance and rehabilitation work at both sites to resume educational and psychosocial support services as soon as possible.

She reiterated the charity’s commitment to supporting children in Gaza and those affected by the Israeli war, as well as expanding the programme to reach more children amid the Strip’s difficult humanitarian, educational and psychological conditions.

The programme currently serves around 3,100 students aged between five and 16 through 14 educational units across Gaza.

Launched in May in partnership with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO), the programme provides children with a safe learning environment, helps them make up for lost learning, and offers school meals, psychosocial support and recreational activities.

The initiative is part of Jordan’s ongoing humanitarian efforts, under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah, to support Palestinians, strengthen the resilience of Gaza’s population and meet the basic needs of children and families affected by the war.
