AMMAN — Duty Commander of the Civil Defence Directorate (CDD) force in Syria Muhannad Ajarmeh said on Thursday that teams are working around the clock in two shifts to extinguish the wildfires.
In a statement to Al Mamlaka TV, Ajarmeh said that the fires are spread across multiple hotspots, emphasising that efforts are being fully coordinated with the Syrian side to bring the situation under control.
He noted that the CDD personnel have deployed modern and advanced equipment to suppress the fires in Syria, aiming to protect sensitive sites and civilians.
Ajarmeh stressed that coordination is ongoing with joint operations rooms in Syria and Turkey to aid in extinguishing the fires.
He explained that the Jordanian Air Force is operating from the skies, while CDD teams are working on the ground.
A total of 73 personnel are taking part in the mission, along with 20 vehicles equipped with the latest firefighting tools and technologies designed for forest fires, he added.
The commander noted that five newly developed vehicles are being used to protect sensitive areas, such as homes located in rural Damascus.
Ajarmeh stressed that the teams are capable of overcoming obstacles and challenges at the fire sites, including strong winds, multiple ignition points, difficult terrain, dense vegetation, and the absence of firebreaks across the affected areas.
