AMMAN — Members of the Jordanian-European Parliamentary Friendship Committee on Sunday met with Romania’s Ambassador to Jordan George Cristian Maior and discussed ways to bolster cooperation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The ambassador stressed that the Kingdom and Romania have strong political relations, based on the strong relations between the countries’ leaderships.

He referred to a number of agreements, memoranda of understanding, and the implementation of joint programmes between the sides in several fields, including energy, culture, tourism, agriculture and investment.

The envoy pointed out the importance of strengthening trade, economic and parliamentary relations between the countries, especially in light of the difficult circumstances caused by the pandemic.

During the meeting, both sides discussed regional developments, especially with regard to the Palestinian cause, reviewing the stances of His Majesty King Abdullah towards the Palestinian cause and efforts exerted to achieve security and stability in the Middle East.

Head of the Jordanian-European Parliamentary Friendship Committee  MP Khaldoun Haina stressed the importance of the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Haina and the association’s members lauded Jordanian-Romanian relations, which reached high levels of cooperation due to the keenness of the two leaderships, stressing that they are based on mutual respect and continuous coordination on various issues of mutual concern.

They called for establishing partnerships with the private sector in Romania, and overcoming all obstacles facing Jordanian investors in the Romanian markets, as well as increasing scholarships for Jordanian students and bolstering medical tourism in Jordan, given its position in the Middle East and North Africa.

The ambassador reaffirmed Romania’s position towards the Hashemite Custodianship of the holy sites in Jerusalem, praising the continued role of His Majesty in achieving a comprehensive and just peace in the region.

He stressed the need to develop and expand relations with Jordan, especially in the field of economy, security and trade, noting that the mutual visits between the countries’ leaders will support and open “new horizons” for economic cooperation as well as stimulate the private sector and encourage businesspeople to take advantage of the available investment opportunities.
