AMMAN — The Eastern Military Region on Monday thwarted three separate attempts to smuggle large quantities of narcotics into Jordan using guided balloons, the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) said.
Border Guard units detected the balloons at different locations within their area of responsibility and intercepted and downed them inside Jordanian territory, in coordination with security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, according to the JAF.
The operations resulted in the seizure of the narcotics payloads, which were handed over to the competent authorities for legal action.
The JAF reaffirmed its commitment to confronting all smuggling and infiltration attempts along the Kingdom’s borders.
The military said it continues to monitor tactics and methods used in illegal operations and is taking the necessary operational measures to foil such attempts and safeguard national security.
