AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday condemned the “provocative and reprehensible” statements by far-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, after he called for targeting the Palestinian leadership.
In a statement, the ministry spokesperson Fouad Majali said Ben-Gvir’s remarks amounted to a “blatant violation” and a “clear threat” to the Palestinian leadership, describing them as direct and unacceptable incitement.
Ben Gvir has that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas should be placed in “solitary confinement and senior PA officials should be targeted for assassination if the UN advances recognition of a Palestinian state,” according to Israeli media.
Ben Gvir’s remarks came before a Security Council vote on Monday on a resolution endorsing US President Donald Trump’s comprehensive Gaza plan.
Trump’s Gaza plan mentions a possible future Palestinian state, which the Israeli government is vehemently against.
Majali underlined the Kingdom’s rejection of continued “racist and inflammatory” statements made by Israel’s far-right ministers, which come amid heightened tensions and escalating Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank.
He also criticised ongoing restrictions on Palestinians and pressure on the Palestinian economy.
The spokesperson warned that the latest actions could further inflame the situation, posing risks to regional security and stability.
Majali urged the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities by pressuring Israel to halt the “dangerous escalations in the West Bank and to curb the inflammatory rhetoric of its officials.”
He reiterated Jordan’s call for realising the Palestinians’ legitimate rights, including the establishment of an independent state on the pre- 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital which, he added is the only path to a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
