AMMAN — Minister of Government Communication Mohammad Momani on Saturday called for stronger Arab media cooperation, expertise exchange and closer coordination to keep pace with technological developments and serve common Arab causes.

Momani made the remarks during bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Future of Media and Communication Forum with Palestinian Minister of Information and General Supervisor of Official Media Ahmed Assaf, Lebanese Minister of Information Paul Morcos, Head of Egypt’s National Media Authority Ahmed Al Muslimani, Syrian Minister of Information Khaled Zaarour and President of the Arab Journalists Union Moaid Allami.

Momani, who is also the Government spokesperson, said that Arab media face challenges arising from digital transformation and the growing influence of social media and artificial intelligence, requiring closer coordination among media institutions.

During his meeting with Assaf, Momani reiterated Jordan’s support, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, for the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights, foremost among them the establishment of an independent state, while rejecting displacement and the alternative homeland.

The two officials stressed the importance of continued Jordanian-Palestinian media coordination, strengthening the presence of the Palestinian cause in Arab and international media and conveying the facts to global public opinion.

Assaf praised the King’s address to the UN General Assembly, saying it highlighted Palestinian suffering and called on the international community to fulfil its responsibilities towards developments in the Palestinian territories.

In his meeting with Morcos, Momani discussed exchanging expertise in media legislation, digital media regulation and the work of media institutions and content creators, as well as combating hate speech and disinformation.

Momani and Al Muslimani discussed cooperation between Jordanian and Egyptian media institutions, particularly in modernising official media, digitising radio and television archives, preserving media heritage and making archived content accessible.

During his meeting with Zaarour, Momani stressed cooperation in media development, training and capacity-building. He also affirmed Jordan’s readiness, in line with Royal directives, to support Syria in rebuilding its institutions, strengthening security and stability and pursuing development and prosperity.

Zaarour highlighted the importance of developing journalists’ skills and combating misinformation to ensure accurate reporting and serve common Arab causes.

Momani and Allami discussed supporting professional journalism, building journalists’ capacities and strengthening the role of Arab press institutions and unions in addressing challenges facing the profession.

Allami stressed the importance of training and expertise exchange to keep pace with professional and technological developments, commending Jordan’s efforts to strengthen cooperation among Arab media institutions.

Momani reiterated Jordan’s commitment to continued cooperation with Arab countries and media institutions to develop the sector and address its challenges.
