US Senate passes bill for aid to Israeli Occupation, Ukraine, Taiwan

The US Senate overwhelmingly passed a bill targeting aid to Israeli Occupation, Ukraine, and Taiwan after months of delay, sending it to President Joe Biden's desk for signing into law.

Late on Tuesday evening, the Senate approved a series of laws, with a majority of 79 votes to 18, which the House of Representatives had approved the previous Saturday.

This followed a sudden change in stance by Republican leaders last week, allowing for a vote on the aid package, most of which comprises military aid worth USD 95 billion to Ukraine, Israeli Occupation, Taiwan, and US partners in the Indo-Pacific region. The four bills were merged into one package in the Senate.

Among the aid provided, around USD 61 billion is directed to Ukraine, USD 26 billion to Israeli Occupation, in addition to humanitarian aid for civilians in conflict areas worldwide, and up to USD 8.12 billion to assist Taiwan and US allies in the Indo-Pacific region in both security and humanitarian matters.

The legislation also includes measures aimed at banning the use of TikTok in the United States unless it cuts ties with its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, swiftly, and directing potential seized Russian assets to Ukraine.
