AMMAN — Minister of Transport and Labour Nidal Qatamin on Thursday chaired a meeting of the Higher Government Committee for the Aqaba Port–Shadiya–Maan Railway Project to discuss ways to expedite implementation and address obstacles facing the project.

The meeting brought together secretaries-general and representatives of relevant ministries and government entities, as well as a representative of the Jordanian-Emirati Railway Company, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Qatamin highlighted the project’s importance in connecting Jordan to regional and international markets and as a strategic step towards establishing the National Railway Network.

The minister stressed the need for coordinated government efforts and cooperation among all stakeholders. He called for a single-window system bringing together the relevant entities to expedite approvals, streamline procedures and address obstacles ahead of the launch of field operations.

Participants stressed the importance of continued direct coordination between government entities and the executing company.

They agreed to hold regular coordination meetings to follow up on project requirements, facilitate procedures and accelerate implementation in line with approved technical and procedural standards.

The meeting was attended by secretaries-general of the ministries of transport, local administration, interior, environment, public works and housing, and water and irrigation.

Also attending were representatives of the Income and Sales Tax Department, the Jordan Customs Department, the Department of Land and Survey, the National Electric Power Company, the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission and relevant security agencies.
