AMMAN — Chairman of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Commerce, Khalil Haj Tawfiq, said on Thursday that Jordan has the fundamentals and capabilities to overcome regional and international economic pressures.
He stressed the need to continue on the same path of the collaborated national efforts, and support of the comprehensive economic reform path, especially in the areas of attracting investments, simplifying procedures and stimulating the private sector.
Haj Tawfiq pointed out the statistical data achieved by the trade, services and agriculture sector, noting that its contribution to the GDP, according to current prices for the past three quarters of last year, amounted to 68.6 per cent, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
He affirmed that the GDP at current prices increased from JD5.998 billion in 2000 to JD10.762 billion in 2010, to JD30.793 billion in 2018, reaching JD32.1 billion during the last three quarters of 2025.
Chairman added that the Kingdom's GDP per capita increased to JD3546.9 during 2024, compared with JD1278 in 2000.
He said that the number of workers in the trade and services sector increased from 120,000 in 2005, to 337,000 in 2010, then to 460,000 in 2018, to reach 557,000 workers in 2024.
The value of national exports increased during 2000 from 1.081 billion dinars to reach JD4.750 billion in 2012, reaching a value of JD7.806 billion during the 10 months of last year, according to Haj Tawfiq.
He said that the total credit facilities granted to the commercial sector by licensed banks amounted to JD1.327 billion in 2003, rising to JD4.075 billion in 2016, reaching JD5.876 billion during 11 months of last year, ranking second to the construction sector.
Chairman stressed that the JCC will continue to promote the economic opportunities available in the Kingdom and strengthen its partnerships with private sector institutions on Arab and international levels, to attract investors and business owners and consolidate Jordan's position as a regional hub for trade and investment, Petra reported.
