Prime minister, Qatari counterpart discuss ties, regional developments

AMMAN — Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Sunday held talks with Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation and reviewing regional developments.
 
The discussions, held at the Prime Ministry, stressed the importance of building on the outcomes of the Jordanian–Qatari Joint Higher Committee meetings, with both sides pointing to significant opportunities to deepen economic partnership, particularly in gas, energy, investment and human resources.
 
The two sides underlined the role of the private sector in both countries in capitalising on these opportunities. Hassan said meetings are planned in the coming months to explore prospects for cooperation at the private-sector level, according to a Prime Ministry statement.
 
Commending Qatar's support for Jordan across several sectors, notably economic development and employment, the prime minister reiterated the government's readiness to train Jordanian youth in specialisations required by the Qatari labour market, to expand the benefits of the platform facilitating employment of Jordanians in Qatar, which he described as a successful model of bilateral cooperation.
 
On regional developments, Hassan said the repercussions of the war on Gaza continue to pose a major challenge, alongside the difficult situation in the West Bank and Jerusalem due to "extremist" violations by the Israeli government.
 
While praising Qatar's role in promoting regional stability, particularly efforts to end the war on Gaza, the Qatari prime minister said the positions of the two countries are aligned and mutually supportive, under the guidance of their leaderships and through continued coordination, especially on the Palestinian cause and the Syrian file.
 
He stressed the importance of cooperation among Jordan, Qatar and other Arab states in light of accelerating regional and global challenges.
 
On Syria, both sides said security and stability in the country are essential for the stability of the region, stressing the need for joint efforts to support reconstruction and development in a way that preserves unity and security.
 
The Qatari prime minister said there are wide-ranging opportunities for cooperation with Jordan, noting that the Joint Higher Committee meetings provide an effective framework to review progress in bilateral relations and plan future steps, particularly in trade, investment, industry, energy and workforce development.
 
He also praised the efficiency and expertise of Jordanian human resources and expressed a desire to advance cooperation in this area.
 
The talks were attended by senior ministers and officials from both sides. A formal reception ceremony was held for the visiting Qatari prime minister, including a guard of honour and the playing of the Jordanian Royal Anthem and the Qatari national anthem.
