Jordan condemns Israel’s new settlement tenders in occupied West Bank

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday condemned the Israeli government’s announcement of new tenders to construct 356 settlement units in one of the illegal colonial settlements in the occupied West Bank.

In a statement, the ministry described the move as a "clear entrenchment of the occupation, a flagrant violation of international and humanitarian law, and a blatant undermining of the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination.

The ministry also reiterated the need to end the occupation and establish an independent, sovereign Palestinian state along the pre-1967 border, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Fuad Majali reiterated the Kingdom’s firm rejection of the continued settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank and Israel’s ongoing restrictive measures against Palestinians.

He stressed that such actions constitute violations of international law and relevant UN resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolution 2334, which condemns all Israeli measures aimed at altering the demographic composition and status quo of occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.

Majali also referred to the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which affirmed the illegality of the Israeli occupation and the invalidity of settlement construction and annexation measures in the occupied West Bank.

He called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities, compel Israel to halt its illegal escalation in the West Bank, and support the Palestinian people’s legitimate right to establish an independent state on their national soil, the only path toward achieving a just and comprehensive peace that ensures regional security and stability.
