Trump suggests fewer than 20 'Israeli' captives alive in Gaza, sparking outrage in 'Israel'

US President Donald Trump recently said that fewer than 20 'Israeli' captives are still alive in Gaza, remarks that triggered outrage in 'Israel'. Speaking at a White House press conference, Trump suggested that the number of captives may be lower than previously reported and said a military operation would be the safest way to secure their release.
Families of captives in 'Israel' described Trump’s comments as both inaccurate and deeply hurtful. “There are 50 captives,” the Hostages’ Families Forum said in a statement. “For us, each and every one of them is an entire world. If Minister Ron Dermer, who speaks only with the Americans but does not bother to meet with the families, knows something else, he should have updated us first. Our sacred duty is to prevent sacrifice and bring everyone home.”
Hours after Trump’s remarks, 'Israel’s' captive coordinator, Gal Hirsch, sent a message to families to reaffirm the official assessment. He stated that according to 'Israeli' intelligence, 20 captives are confirmed alive, two are in grave condition, and 28 are dead, defined as “fallen captives.”
Families continue to press Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government for an agreement to secure the release of those still held in Gaza.
Trump also commented on Washington’s stance regarding 'Israel’s' proposed seizure of Gaza City, noting that while some relatives of the captives oppose military action, a minority support the operation. His remarks have intensified debate over the handling of the captives and the military response.
