AMMAN — Police on Monday said a man who allegedly shot and injured three people, then barricaded himself at his house, died from a gunshot wound in Amman, official sources said.
The suspect was engaged in a brawl with some of his neighbours in Ashrafieh neighbourhood on Monday evening, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.
“Police were called to the area, and when our forces arrived, the suspect headed to his house and fired several rounds at his neighbours,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.
Three people were injured, including one listed in critical condition, the police official added.
When the force attempted to arrest the suspect, Sartawi maintained, “he barricaded himself inside his house and started shooting at the officers”.
“Our officers returned fire, and when the threat was over, the suspect was dead from a gunshot wound,” he added.
None of the police officers was injured in the incident, according to Sartawi.
Investigators found two weapons at the suspect’s house, including an automatic weapon, according to a statement by the Public Security Directorate.
Multiple media outlets and social media users reported that the suspect was a dentist who resided in Ashrafieh.
Sartawi said investigations are ongoing into the incident.
