UN suspends nighttime operations in Gaza for 48 hours

The United Nations has suspended its nighttime operations in the Gaza Strip for at least 48 hours to evaluate the security situation - UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric announced in a press briefing today, Wednesday.

The announcement comes after a lethal “Israeli” airstrike that targeted seven aid workers of the World Central Kitchen (WCK) on Monday night.

Poland's Deputy Foreign Minister, Andrzej Szejna, said earlier Wednesday that he had summoned the “Israeli” ambassador for talks over the death of a Polish aid worker killed in an “Israeli” strike in the Gaza Strip.

Among the seven aid workers killed were three British citizens. The UK’s Foreign Ministry announced yesterday, Tuesday, that it summoned the “Israeli” ambassador to deliver the country’s “unequivocal condemnation” of the missile strike.

The United States has also urgently called for an investigation into the airstrike, with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken saying that “Israel should do more to protect innocent civilian lives,” in addition to calling for a “swift, impartial investigation to understand exactly what happened” with the deadly strike.
