AMMAN —The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation on Monday signed a $28 million financing agreement with the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) to complete equipment works at Princess Basma Hospital in Irbid.

The agreement, signed by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan and CEO of SFD Sultan Al Marshad, builds on a previous $70 million grant provided by the fund to support the hospital’s construction, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Toukan expressed appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s long-standing support, describing the Saudi fund as a key partner in Jordan’s development journey.

She said the project will enhance healthcare standards in the northern region by expanding access to specialised medical services and strengthening sector capacity to meet citizens’ needs.

The hospital aligns with the Economic Modernisation Vision, which places healthcare reform at its core through infrastructure development and improved service quality, the minister added.

For his part, Marshad said the agreement reflects the close development partnership between the two kingdoms and the continued contribution of the fund to building and upgrading Princess Basma Hospital.

He noted that the project will help equip a wide range of medical and consultative specialities, enabling the delivery of integrated healthcare services, boosting the efficiency of health infrastructure and improving access to specialised care in the north of the Kingdom.
