HRH Prince Hassan meets UN agency heads to bolster coordinated development efforts

AMMAN — HRH Prince El Hassan on Tuesday met with the heads and representatives of United Nations agencies operating in Jordan, including the UN Resident Coordinator, for discussions aimed at strengthening joint development and humanitarian efforts.
 
Senior officials from the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) took part in the meeting. They were joined by representatives from the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), UNESCO and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA).
 
Additional participants included officials from UN-Habitat, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), UNICEF, UNIDO, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS), UNRWA, the World Food Programme (WFP), the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UN Women.
 
HRH Princess Sumaya, President of the Royal Scientific Society, also attended, reflecting her prominent role in advancing science, innovation and sustainable development, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
 
Prince Hassan highlighted the need to reinforce the longstanding partnership between Jordan and the UN system, urging the adoption of coordinated and forward-looking approaches that address the Kingdom’s social, economic and humanitarian challenges.
 
UN representatives briefed the meeting on current programmes in Jordan and reported on progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals, outlining achievements and areas requiring further work.
 
Stressing that human dignity must remain the guiding principle of all development and humanitarian efforts, the Prince noted that tackling vulnerability, sustainability and stability demands integrated and comprehensive strategies. He also underscored the value of knowledge-based dialogue and evidence-led planning, emphasising the importance of cooperation among national institutions, civil society and UN agencies in enhancing resilience and supporting sustainable development.
 
"Shared responsibility and collective action are essential for managing regional transformations and promoting the well-being of communities in Jordan," the prince added.
 
The participants reaffirmed their commitment to working with Jordan to advance peace, development and human security.
 
The meeting concluded with agreement on the importance of continued consultation and cooperation in support of national priorities and in strengthening the enduring partnership between Jordan and the United Nations.
