Authorities search for man after allegedly fatally beating son

AMMAM – Police on Monday said they were searching for a man who allegedly killed his son after beating him on the head in Zarqa Governorate earlier in the day.

The 16-year-old victim was struck once in the head, reportedly by his father in Ruseifeh following an argument, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

“The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his wound,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

The suspect then fled from the house and police are searching for him, the police official added.

A postmortem conducted on the victim by a team of government pathologists at the National Institute of Forensic Medicine indicated that “the boy died of a blunt trauma to the head,” according to a senior medical source.

“The victim apparently was struck with a wooden stick once on the head, which caused a fractured skull,” the senior medical source told The Jordan Times.

The government pathologists “did not detect “any marks of abrasion or laceration on the victim’s body and concluded that he died as a result of a brain haemorrhage,” the senior medical source added.

Investigations are ongoing into the incident, according to a statement by the Public Security Directorate.
