Six of the 22 crew members from a Greek-owned vessel sunk earlier this week in the Red Sea are believed to be held by Houthis, maritime security sources reported today Thursday.

 

The Iranian-backed Houthi group announced yesterday that they had rescued "a number" of the ship's crew, but provided no further details on their identities or current status.

 

The vessel, identified as the Eternity C, is the second ship to sink this week in the Red Sea, following the Magic Seas. Houthis resumed their maritime attacks last Sunday, claiming their actions are aimed at preventing the passage of vessels linked to 'Israeli' ports, in support of Palestinians in Gaza.

 

According to maritime officials, cited by Reuters, who have confirmed the launch of a rescue mission for the crew of the Eternity C, stating that the attack resulted in the deaths of at least four crew members. Maritime data from Western sources indicates the crew comprised 21 Filipinos and one Russian.

 

It is widely expected that the Houthis will officially claim responsibility for the Eternity C attack, similar to their documented claims regarding the Magic Seas, which they reportedly sank after rigging and detonating explosives on board.
