AMMAN — Drug-related offences in the Kingdom fell by around 34 per cent in 2025, with 25,776 cases recorded compared with 38,782 in 2024, according to the annual report of the National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR).

 

The report, based on official data, showed that offences involving drug possession and consumption fell by nearly 39 per cent to 15,720 in 2025 from 25,919 in 2024, according to Al Mamlaka TV.

 

Drug trafficking offences also declined by around 22 per cent, from 12,863 cases in 2024 to 10,056 last year.

 

The NCHR highlighted the continued implementation of the National Strategic Plan for Drug Prevention and the Anti-Narcotics Department’s efforts in awareness, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation in cooperation with civil society organisations.

 

The report noted the launch of the “Yes to Life... No to Drugs” awareness campaign, targeting young people and students at Yarmouk University to raise awareness of the dangers of drugs and ways to prevent their use.

 

It also monitored the opening of an expansion to the addiction treatment centre at the Berain Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre.

 

The expansion provides free intensive recovery programmes for inmates and aims to improve the centre’s capacity to treat addiction, with the NCHR describing it as a model in drug prevention and addiction treatment.
