RABAT - Flash-flooding caused by sudden rain storms killed 14 people in the Moroccan coastal town of Safi on Sunday, local authorities said, doubling an earlier toll.

 

The downpour in Safi province, around 300 kilometres south of the capital Rabat, caused fierce flooding that damaged around 70 houses and shops in the town, said officials.

 

Damage to roads in the area cut off traffic on several roads of the town, which lies on Morocco's Atlantic coast.

 

As teams searched for other possible casualties, the weather service forecast more heavy rains for Tuesday across the country.
