AMMAN — HRH Princess Basma Bint Talal, Chairperson of the Higher Committee of the Goodwill Campaign, on Wednesday oversaw the distribution of humanitarian aid to target groups in Zarqa.
The initiative, implemented by the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD), aimed to bolster local families and students in the governorate, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Accompanied by Zarqa Governor Firas Abu Gaoud and members of the campaign’s higher committee, Princess Basma visited the Thabit Bin Qais Zakat and Charity Committee in New Zarqa and the Bayt Al Khair Society for Orphan Care.
During the visit, Her Royal Highness delivered food parcels to 200 female-headed households and provided financial assistance to several university students enrolled in majors aligned with current labour market demands.
Princess Basma also handed over support to women to help develop their productive projects, enhancing their sustainability and success. Furthermore, she participated in distributing gifts and winter clothing to a number of orphaned children.
The princess also met with young women working in a sewing workshop at the Bayt Al Khair Society, where she delivered campaign-funded support to provide necessary sewing supplies. The aid also covers advanced training courses and sessions for the workshop’s staff.
Touring the society’s medical clinics, the princess was briefed by Nayef Abdallat, head of the Goodwill Campaign’s medical team, on plans to activate the clinics in cooperation with volunteers and private sector partners. The move aims to ensure the provision of free healthcare services to underprivileged families and orphans in the area.
Princess Basma reaffirmed the Goodwill Campaign’s commitment, rooted in its charitable goals and supported by its partners, to contributing to national efforts in assisting vulnerable families and creating suitable employment opportunities, particularly for women and girls through home-based and productive projects.
She stressed that the campaign prioritises the economic empowerment of women, pointing to JOHUD’s programmes across the Kingdom’s governorates that equip women with the skills necessary for the workforce and marketing.
The princess also expressed pride in the cooperation with the campaign’s partners, which embodies the values of social solidarity, especially during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
She also listened to presentations by Walid Zakaria, head of the Thabit Bin Qais Zakat Committee, and Siham Omari, chief of the Bayt Al Khair Society for Orphan Care.
Established in 2006, the Thabit Bin Qais Committee supports 200 families through monthly cash and in-kind assistance. Meanwhile, the Bayt Al Khair Society, founded in 2012, cares for 620 orphans and their families, while managing a sewing project for training and production purposes.
